Klezmer reunion concert, with singer Amy Olson. A benefit for Mayim Rabim Congregation.

Klezmer--the lively, danceable, haunting music of the Easter European Jews--will warm your soul on this winter afternoon. One of the oldest and most highly respected groups in the Midwest, Prairie Heym Klezmorim welcomes back singer Amy Olson for this special benefit concert. The band, founded in 1988, reaches back into the rich tradition of the authentic klezmer music of Eastern Europe. The concert will include a range of moods--wedding dance music: the shers, bulgars and fraylakhs, the conte,mmplative doinas and horas, and songs from the Yiddish stage and folk repertoire. This concert will be full of mesmerizing music you can dance to, clap to, or just listen to. Enjoy!

 

The Prairie Heym Klezmorim, founded in 1988, have performed at weddings, bar mitzvahs, brisses and other simchas, as well as the Minnesota Orchestra Sommerfest. at many of the Twin Cities synagogues, Jewish COmmunity Centers, and at the Hillel Foundation. Band members include Marty Dworkin (clarinet), Al Levine (accordion), Steve Sandberg (trombone), Michael Reiff (violin) and Jennifer Rubin (bass). Vocalist Amy Olson performs songs from the Yiddish theater, as well as from the rich tradition of Yiddish folk music.

 

This concert is a fundraiser for Mayim Rabim Congregation, the only Reconstructionist synagogue in Minnesota. The youngest movement of Judaism, Reconstructionism melds tradition with modern ideals.
