Punch BrothersTickets go on sale Fri June 27 for a sweet sextet of shows at The Cedar in the fall: at noon, buy tickets for Nickel Creek’s Chris Thile’s new “chamber bluegrass” project, Punch Brothers (9/5), for avant-garde Czech rebels from the sixties Plastic People of the Universe (9/10), and popular contemporary Hungarian band Little Cow (9/11). At 2pm, get in early for a show by Jayme Stone & Mansa Sissoko focusing on the journey of the banjo from Africa to Appalachia, with help from Spaghetti Western String Company (9/18), delightful Turkish trad/rock band BaBa Zula (with a belly dancer!) (9/21), and for Peter Himmelman’s adult show (12/20).
