The Raymond Yates Band’s music is best described as “Americana”. Familiar yet original and fresh, they create something new using elements from the wide range of music that thrives in this country. Sometimes you’ll feel the soul of jazz, the frenzy of rock, other times the introspection of folk, the earthiness of blues, or the drive of R&B – and that’s okay. Every song is fashioned to be a new experience, a new landscape for listeners to experience, with the intention of blurring the line between concert and theatre. Dramatic, comedic, and musical, their concerts create a live experience that stands apart from others. Tonight, Raymond and friends will be celebrating the release of their second CD, Gates of Sun and Shadow. Opening will be Katie Gearty, one of the new voices of the Twin Cities. A versatile artist, she was nominated for Female Vocalist of 2006 by the Minnesota Music Academy. Katie sings many styles of music, especially jazz, R&B, funk, rock, and blues, all delivered with her unique and eclectic sound and style.
Over his 15 year musical campaign, Raymond has traveled thousands of miles to hundreds of venues, and his songs have received radio airplay in North & South America and Europe. Outside of the RYB, Raymond has performed with "Prairie Home Companion" favorites Pat Donohue and Peter Ostroushko, as well as Bill Staines, Dean Magraw, Tim Sparks, and Peter Mayer.
The Raymond Yates Band currently call Minnesota home, and include Raymond Yates (guitar/vocals), Simon Schmitt (drums), Matt Ogden (lead guitar), Eric Ebbesen (bass), and Kim Schultz (backing vocals). For this performance, Matt Freed of Cloud Cult will be joining the band!
Don't miss this opportunity to experience the introspection, joy, and laughter that the Raymond Yates Band’s shows bring! "Yates excels at telling stories, often with a touch of drama, whether
they're about fleeting love, locked-away dreams, lost friends, or
taking a chance on success. He's good with language, and his
philosophic musings add color and depth. A strong vocalist, Yates can
lead the charge on stirring, folk-rock lopes like "You Will Find Me"
and "There And Back Again," as well as etch a gentle ballad such as the
James Taylor-like "Sing for the Workman."" (Rick Mason, A-list pick City Pages 6/3/07)
