Chris Smither

Chris Smither

A return by veteran singer-songwriter, guitarist, and homespun philosopher Chris Smither. Since his last show at the Cedar, Chris has been busy writing songs for his new studio record. In November 2011, he released an EP What I Learned in School, a Smither take on some Rock & Roll classics. Chris is a consistently strong performer who has seen it all in his long career. We've left the light on for you.

The Pines record release with Jeffrey Foucault

Journey with The Pines further into darkness, and closer to the light with their new album Dark So Gold. Sounding both rooted in the past and yet with a fresh, contemporary vision, the band is indeed poised to go gold.

Opening will be simpatico singer-songwriter Jeffrey Foucault. As the New Yorker states, "“Foucault’s voice, and his themes, are gruff, sombre, and deep, and his accompanying musicians [on the album], including the Pretenders’ Eric Heywood, on pedal steel, create a sparse, dramatic soundscape.”

Vieux Farka Touré with Mike Michel

Vieux Farka Touré

After playing before a billion people with his 2010 World Cup performance in Johannesburg, South Africa, it should be no sweat for Malian guitarist and singer Vieux Farka Touré to connect with a few hundred fans at The Cedar. Vieux's hot new album The Secret (Six Degrees) features collaborations with guitar greats Derek Trucks and John Scofield, a vocal contribution from Dave Matthews and Vieux’s final collaboration with his legendary father, Ali Farka Touré, but it is Vieux's own contributions that shine brightest. When you hear that guitar rip over those blues progressions, when you hear the electric buzz of his rock-influenced solos, you simply become engulfed in the music.
