Frigg with Kaivama
The Cedar welcomes back the Finnish-Norwegian fiddling folksters Frigg, a firm fan favorite from their knockout appearances at Nordic Roots Festivals and on A Prairie Home Companion. With their wall of fiddles, youthful energy, and creative instrumentation that includes a double bass, guitar/dobro, and cittern, Frigg are a force to be reckoned with, and a live "must-see." Opening tonight will be Minnesota Finnish folk fiddle and guitar duo Kaivama.
The Cedar is now fully air-conditioned for your year-round comfort!

VENUE CHANGE: António Zambujo with Geitungen
The honeyed tones and sensitive interpretations of Antonio Zambujo have propelled him into the vanguard of modern fadistas, and marking him as a unique voice on Lisbon's fado scene. Antonio initially studied clarinet and classical guitar, but grew up steeped in the music of his homeland region, cante alentejano, a male choir chant from the South of Portugal which is infused with influences from neighboring North Africa. These formative influences blend with his passion for jazz and Brazilian music to create an artist who is expanding the horizons of traditional fado while remaining committed to exploring its roots.

Kaivama CD Release with Arto Järvelä
Finnish-American musicians Sara Pajunen and Jonathan Rundman of the folk duo KAIVAMA grew up in Northwoods cultures of long winters, lakeside saunas, rugged terrain, and solitude. Tonight, join with them in celebrating the release of their new self-titled debut album. Both ancient and modern Finnish influences reveal themselves in KAIVAMA's sound: danceable rhythms, joyous melodies, icy whispers, sleek construction, primal drones, and poppy hooks all interplay as Pajunen and Rundman explore the music of their ancestors.
Rounding out this evening of beautiful Finnish folk music, opening tonight will be the renowned fiddler and composer Arto Järvelä (of JPP, and collaborator with many others), a fourth generation member of the famous Järvelä fiddler family.

Bruce Molsky and Ale Möller
Two stunning multi-instrumentalists performing as a duo for a special, limited U.S. tour. Molsky is well known in the American old-time music community for his fiddling, but also sings and plays guitar and banjo. Möller is "the Quincy Jones of Swedish folk," whose multiple projects include Frifot, a duo with Scottish fiddler Aly Bain, and his own world music big band.
An evening with Väsen (CD Release Concert)
Everyone's favorite tall Swedish acoustic trio with their new CD Väsen Street being released on the fabulous NorthSide label! There’s a place where wild-eyed farmers whip through fiddle tunes with a yelp; Japanese Celtophiles jig and reel to Swedish dance numbers in a Tokyo basement; And, the nyckelharpa (a fiddle with a keyboard) becomes a deadly weapon, as tuned-down, spiced-up guitars give a sly wink to Turkish ouds. Here, brand-new tunes sound achingly ancient.
