@TheCedar December: 'Tis the Season of Music
Welcome to the December issue of @TheCedar! As we head into one of the busiest times of the year, please consider giving yourself, friends and family the gift of a few hours respite and revival at The Cedar with tickets to one of our upcoming events.
Traditions run strong at this time of year, with the appearance of seasonal and holiday favorites including The Klezmatics Hanukkah Dance Party (12/9),the bluegrassy Free Range Pickin's Holiday Show (12/14), Neal and Leandra's Holiday Show (SOLD OUT), the Winter Solstice Drum, Fire, and Dance Jam (12/21), and Michael Monroe's Wintersong CD release. We've also become accustomed to enjoying at this time of year energetic sets from Brave Combo (an absolutely polkastic Holiday Dance Party) and Boiled in Lead, and we're delighted to be able to present them again this month (12/2, and 12/15, respectively). Timeless Irish music from John Williams and Dean Magraw (12/8), and brand new music from Minneapolis singer-songwriter Ben Glaros (CD release for Lovesong Roulette) (12/1) round out the early part of the month.
As an acoustic appetizer, come out to see tonight's rare performance by fingerstyle guitar ace Peter Lang, who'll be celebrating the release of his magnificent double CD-DVD package of vintage and live performances, Peter Lang: Live at Charlotte's Web.
And to get you moving in the busy pre-New Year's weekend, don't miss our back-to-back End of Year Blowout concerts, featuring the raw blues of Black-Eyed Snakes (featuring Low's Alan Sparhawk) with the considerably more laid-back Romantica (12/28), and the following night, three great local acoustic acts who have in common that they have all released acclaimed CDs in the last few months: The Pines/Jeremy Messersmith/Roma Di Luna (12/29). These late-December shows go on sale TODAY (11/30) at noon. Also on sale today at 2pm, the perennially popular International Guitar Night (1/27), local gem Ellis' CD release (2/2), and a first opportunity to hear at The Cedar, New Zealand music legend Tim Finn (Crowded House, Finn Brothers, Split Enz) with White Bear Lake native Alice Peacock (2/4).
Already on sale, and selling very well: the revivalist stringband Carolina Chocolate Drops (1/20), and a truly big show, Monsters of Folk: Dave Alvin, Tim O'Brien, and Chris Smither (2/10). And don't overlook one of David Grisman's favorite new bands, Old School Freight Train (1/17) (he liked them so much they became his backup band for several tours in 2005 and 2006!), and ever-popular Cafe Accordion Orchestra (1/12).
On sale soon: remaining Jan and Feb 08 shows and select March and April shows. Look for an easy gift-giving guide on the Cedar website soon! Or buy a Cedar Gift Certificate from The Cedar Ticketline (612-338-2674 ext) or Concessions, and give your loved one the gift of delectable musical choice.
Our "We Are Made of Cedar" annual fund campaign is underway!
This campaign will drive our end-of-the-year fundraising and run through 2008. We are excited to announce that "We Are Made of Cedar" will be the most comprehensive and vigorous annual fund campaign in The Cedar's history. The campaign asks donors to show they're "made of Cedar" by supporting the organization financially. This campaign will build the support that lays the groundwork for a thriving Cedar future.
To make a donation and for more information, visit www.thecedar.org/donate. Our goal is to recruit 416 donors at $50 or more. The first 100 donors at this level get their choice of three thank-you gifts (see website for details).

Please consider joining the crew of enthusiastic Cedar volunteers, and be ready for a lot of fun and music in the New Year! Next Orientation will be held at The Cedar at 7pm, 12/13. Contact Jason Koffman (Tel: 612-338-2674 ext 102) to sign up.
