The Cedar is excited to welcome Mary Delorié to the team as our new Director of Development. Emmy Carter, who previously held the Director of Development position, will be pivoting within the organization to become The Cedar’s new Booking Director. Congratulations Emmy and Mary!
Mary Delorié: Mary brings extensive nonprofit management and international education experience to her work as Director of Development for The Cedar Cultural Center. Mary began her career with Cross-Cultural Solutions, a premier international organization based in New York that places short-term volunteers in development projects around the world. There, as Director of Program Management, she was a key player in growing the organization from four to sixteen programs.
Moving back to Minnesota, Mary then spent nearly a decade with the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs (HECUA), offering experiential learning opportunities in the Twin Cities and abroad for undergraduate students. At HECUA Mary guided marketing, recruitment, and student services teams that supported sales and brought in 90% of the organization’s revenue. Later, Mary joined the AchieveMpls team in 2014 as the Director of Development to oversee development initiatives that encapsulated annual fund efforts, major donor cultivation, corporate and family foundation giving and sponsorships, legacy gifts, and annual fundraising events.
She earned her bachelor of arts from Sarah Lawrence College in 2001 and has completed several writing, management, and fundraising certificate courses at the University of St. Thomas’ Opus College of Business.
Mary was predominantly raised in rural Minnesota and has family in Australia and the Seychelles Islands. Her personal interests include music, theater, racial justice issues, camping in Minnesota State Parks, and international travel.
Emmy Carter: With Emmy Carter’s two main passions being music and innovative community-driven art, it’s not surprising that The Cedar was one of the first places she fell in love with after moving to the Twin Cities in 2012. She officially joined The Cedar’s development team in 2014, and has spent the last four years directing strategic fundraising and communications efforts which have increased annual fund giving, major gifts, and grant income, while designing and supporting programs that expand The Cedar’s work locally and into Greater Minnesota.
Stepping into the role of Booking Director builds on her past ten years experience in leading arts institutions including The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), and the Cunningham Dance Foundation in New York City. She has been an adjunct faculty member at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and she serves on the Board of Mathew Janczewski’s ARENA DANCES. She holds an MS in Nonprofit Management with a focus on Arts Administration from Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy. In her free time, she enjoys playing music and attending arts events throughout the Twin Cities.
She looks forward to combining her passion and past experience in the role of Booking Director, bringing new artists and voices to The Cedar’s stage while continuing to steward the legacy that The Cedar has built over last 30 years.
