On August 19, 2015, Midnimo artists conducted an engaging workshop for young people from ages 5 all the way to 18 in Highland Park in Mankato. Youth learned the traditional Somali dhaanto and got to dance to live Somali music for the first time in their lives.
As part of The Cedar’s 7th annual Global Roots Festival, onn September 24, 2015 we hosted “How to Build a Multi-Cultural Band,” a workshop for adventurous artists lead by Hodan, Dalmar, Bob Stacke, and Vladamir of Alma Andina at Common Table.
Mursal’s life story is dramatic, compelling, and very representative of the plight of too many modern-day refugees, but especially resonant with fellow Somalis. One of the first professional female vocalists of Muslim faith, Mursal was a star in her homeland while still in her teens.
