The 2016-17 Cedar Commissions Night Two
The 2016-17 Cedar Commissions Night Two
The six annual Cedar Commissions on February 3rd & 4th, 2017, features new works by Dameun Strange, Zack Baltich, Krissy Bergmark, Bethany Battafarano, Ritika Ganguly and SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE. The Cedar Commissions (formerly the 416 Commissions) is a flagship program for emerging artists made possible with a grant from the Jerome Foundation, and has showcased new work by more than 30 local emerging composers and musicians since its inception in 2011.
Zack Baltich
Composer/percussionist Zack Baltich is interested in blending the world of experimental music with more familiar sounds. By combining years of playing in rock bands and the study of classical percussion, he often finds this intersection by placing these styles in context with one another. Zack has received commissions from the American Composers Forum, The Cedar Cultural Center, and the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Zach will be joined by bass clarinetist Carley Olson (Civic Orchestra of Minneapolis, BB5 woodwind group) and drummer Reese Kling (Ar. Birn, Jessica Manning, Greyshot) to perform ingress/passage, a piece that weaves in and out of textural and genre exploration to create unique long-form music.
Krissy Bergmark
Krissy Bergmark
Krissy Bergmark: Composer and tabla player Krissy Bergmark will join with dancer and choreographer Lauren Baker to create an intimate, emotional story line through a “compositional conversation.” Bergmark and Baker will exchange excerpts of music and choreography to create a three movement piece for tabla, cello, electric guitar, fiddle, and dancer.
SEE MORE PERSPECTIVE has been described as a “Chicago Institution”, “Walking creativity” and “The hardest working, most unjustly slept on artist in the Twin Cities”. This award winning hip hopper is a Twin Cities Native, Chicago transplant, MC, Poet, Producer, Engineer, Educator, Visual Artist, Actor, Thinker, Lover and one heck of a cook. He received a 2013 VERVE Grant from Intermedia Arts, a 2017 Cedar Commission from The Cedar Cultural Center, and was a semi-finalist of the Saint Paul Challenge for the Million dollar idea to make Saint Paul Great. SEE MORE is currently on the TruArtSpeaks and COMPAS Arts MN artist rosters teaching rap, spoken word, hip hop music production, and social justice. He serves on the board of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, where he is excited to continue to find new ways to connect with and contribute to Minnesota’s art and music scenes.
