Emel Mathlouthi, who played The Cedar’s 2014 Global Roots Festival, returns to Minneapolis with her new album Ensen on May 10th.

Emel fled her home of Tunisia, where her music was banned from radio and TV, in 2008. During the height of the political unrest in 2011, her song “Kelmti Horra” reached millions of views on Youtube and became an anthem for the Arab Spring.

Emel’s first album, Kelmti Horra (My Word is Free), introduced the world to her groundbreaking marriage of sounds steeped in Tunisian rhythms and electronic beats. Now based in New York, she’s developed a style that’s even more uniquely her own, combining organic and electronic sounds to produce a record that will appeal to any lover of innovative and heartfelt music.

On Ensen, North African percussion and instruments like the guimbri lute, zukra flute and kick drum run through homemade electronic effects and setups, “frame(ing) the undeniable sweetness and pure potency of Mathlouthi's voice, which she wields with the precision of a knife” (NPR).
elle pf
'elle pf' is a Minneapolis-based musical project (formerly known as Bae Tigre) consisting of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ranelle LaBiche, drummer Katharine Seggerman (Lunch Duchess, BOYF) and violinist/guitarist Jenessa LaSota.

With an extensive background in classical training and love for a variety of genres of music (indie-rock, electronic, hip-hop, pop) 'elle pf' creates music that crosses genres, blending classical influence with lush production, 3-part harmonies, and a live rock feel.

'elle pf' is currently recording/mixing their first full length album which is expected to be released in Fall/Winter 2017. Their first single will be released this month (May 2017) as a music video. Stay tuned.
