House Manager

Position Available: House Manager 

Organization: Cedar Cultural Center 

Position Status: Part time, 8+ hours/week

Reports to: Director of Events and Assistant Director of Events 

Organizational Mission: To promote intercultural appreciation and understanding through the presentation of global music and dance. The Cedar is committed to artistic excellence and integrity, diversity of programming, support for emerging artists and community outreach. 

Start Date: Rolling

Hourly Wage: $14/hr


ROLE

The Cedar, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization located in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, seeks a qualified House Manager. Along with one other House Manager and an Event Director, this role oversees front-of-house activities during concerts and events. Tasks include, but are not limited to; training and supervising volunteers, managing concessions sales, reconciling accounts, and customer service. This is a unique opportunity for a candidate with service industry experience, an interest in music, and interculturalism, along with a passion in supporting an ambitious, growing organization doing groundbreaking work in arts and culture. 

Supervision

  • Train and supervise a team of volunteers in a variety of tasks 

  • Oversee set up and clean up for events

  • Provide hospitality to performing artists and patrons 

  • Maintain a safe environment 

  • Ensure security of the building 

  • Managing crowd control

Financial Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all points of purchase 

  • Complete end-of-event accounting, balancing sales reports

  • Oversee ticket, concession and merch sales

  • Operate cash register



QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

The candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication skills with the willingness and ability to work under pressure. We seek an individual with a strong work ethic who has the ability to take direction, give direction, and work independently. The candidate will demonstrate patience and cultural competence in order to successfully work with groups and individuals from a diversity of backgrounds. 

Specific requirements include:

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Experience cashiering, balancing cash drawers, and reconciling accounts

  • Customer service experience

  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Experience in supervision and management

  • Interest in music and the arts 

  • Commitment to and interest in intercultural understanding and equity
