Free Minds, Free People is a national conference that brings together teachers, young people, researchers, parents and community-based activists + educators from across the country to build a movement to develop and promote education as a tool for liberation. We seek to develop ways of teaching and learning both in and out of school that help us to build a more just society. The conference is a space in which these groups can learn from and teach each other, sharing knowledge, experience and strategies.
Midwest Mixed is a group of community members and friends all dedicated to making space for courageous conversations about race and other measures of identity. They approach the work using creative and fine art to express what words cannot. The goal of MWM is not to divide, but to provide safer spaces to move deeply into our authentic selves. They are hosting their biennial MidWest Mixed Conference in Minneapolis July 12-14th, 2019. www.midwestmixed.com
The concert will feature Tall Paul, Izell Pyramid, and a DJ Set by sunSets.
Tall Paul is an Anishinaabe and Oneida Hip-Hop artist enrolled on the Leech Lake reservation in Minnesota. Born and raised in Minneapolis, his music strongly reflects his inner-city upbringing. From personal expressions of self, to thought provoking commentary on issues affecting Indigenous and diverse communities as a whole, Tall Paul’s music evokes a wide variety of substance and soul. Check out his Soundcloud.
Izell Pyramid is a twin cities based music group comprising of two siblings. One works the mic as the lead vocalist and the other accompanies them with beats they self-produce as well as guitar and supporting vocals. Serita Colette and Ryan Stopera make up the collaborative dj group, sunSETS. They share vibrations intended for BIPOC and queer communities to move freely in their bodies, discover new music, and share liberated space together.
