INSIDE THE MUSIC: AFROTRONIX x Greg Grease

Join The Cedar and Slam Academy for a special conversation between Greg Grease of The Cedar’s Artist Collective and Global Roots Festival artist AfrotroniX.

This show-and-tell will illuminate AfrotroniX’s production process, digging into his process of creating songs, the themes of his songwriting, and the cultural roots behind his sound. Whether you’re an expert producer, or consider yourself a musical novice, there will be something for all levels of interest and skill at this event.

Can’t make it in person? No worries! The Cedar will be live-streaming the conversation on Facebook and putting it on Youtube after the event is over, thanks to MCN6.

Want to see AfrotroniX live? He'll be performing at The Cedar's free Global Roots Festival on Wednesday, September 25th. Reserve your free tickets here.

This free Global Roots Festival educational program is made possible in part by the Consulate General of Canada in Minneapolis, partnering with The Cedar to present Afrotronix at the 2019 Global Roots Festival.

ABOUT AFROTRONIX

Named the ”Best African DJ of 2018,” Chad-born, Montreal-based artist AfrotroniX puts on ecstatic live shows that combine electronic music, live drums, African urban dance and digital art. His music draws on influences from around the globe, mixing dubstep, house, reggae and EDM with mbalax from Senegal and the Gambia, malinke music from West Africa, and Tuareg blues from the Sahara. Heavily influenced by Afrofuturism, he performs under a custom helmet called the “Afrotron,” with visual aesthetics reminiscent of Star Wars, Tron and Daft Punk.

ABOUT GREG GREASE

Greg Grease is a Musician/Visual Artist/Bag & clothing maker from South Minneapolis. There is a blue-collar Afro-centricity present throughout all of Grease’s music, particularly with his band Astralblak, a Soul/Funk/Future Space movement created to empower and elevate people through sonics. Grease is inspired by and creates reality-based music; reflecting his environment growing up in a lower middle class neighborhood as a black youth. Greg also owns and operates River Life Dry Goods, where he designs (and) hand sews leather goods, canvas bags and bespoke workwear. Greg teaches the Hip Hop Producer Program at Slam Academy, and is a member of The Cedar's Artist Collective.
