ABOUT THIS SHOW

Dhaxal-suge

When a beloved leader falls, who carries the crown?

Dhaxal-suge

The Somali Museum Dance Troupe Showcase is a celebration of the most talented Somali dancers in North America. This show was created, developed, and brought to life by the Somali Museum’s program team and Dance Troupe, made for us and by us with passion and pride. The show features traditional Somali dance, music, and storytelling. Rooted in the art of riwaayad—Somali theatrical storytelling—this production highlights the significance of dance as a form of cultural expression and community. From beloved classics like Dhaanto, Jaandheer, and Sharax, to exciting surprises they’ve tirelessly worked on, this showcase promises a night of energy, culture, and performance you won’t want to miss! The Somali Museum is proud to represent by showcasing their talents and efforts to preserve and innovate the beautiful tradition of performing arts.

The Somali Museum is the home of traditional Somali arts in Minnesota. A 501c3 organization displaying a collection of over 1000 pieces, and offering educational programs about Somali traditional culture that are not offered anywhere else. The Somali Museum offers an unrivaled opportunity for Minnesotans of all backgrounds to encounter and learn about Somali traditional culture.

The Somali Museum’s mission is to use this collection as a tool for education: making it possible for young Somalis who have grown up in the United States to connect with their culture, as well as Minnesotans of other ethnic heritage to encounter Somali art and traditional culture for the first time.  The Museum's programs explore the changing role of traditional arts and culture as the Somali people move across borders and time.  By promoting the highest forms of Somali creativity, the Somali Museum believes that it can also help to diminish harmful prejudice and misunderstanding.
