ABOUT THIS SHOW
The Minneapolis four-piece Ancient Waves is celebrating their full-length debut album, Dreams I Fly In, Dreams I Die In. Led by South Dakota-born singer-songwriter Jarad Miles, the band formed in 2019 and is known for their bold and eclectic rock instrumentation around Miles's deft and emotive songwriting. Joining them is acclaimed St. Paul musician and singer-songwriter Lucy Michelle (Little Fevers, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles) and her backing band performing solo material from her recent album, Womanly. The night will begin with a rousing opening set from instrumental, folkloric punk band Whispered the Rabbit.

Ancient Waves is a Minneapolis-based indie rock group fronted by singer-songwriter Jarad Miles. Since 2019, Miles has led the eclectic and expansive Ancient Waves through thick and thin, doling out the fervor and mystique of a love-sick sea captain to songs about the wonders and dismays of the universe.
Ancient Waves’ full-length Dreams I Fly In, Dreams I Die In may be a debut, but it’s clear the Minneapolis quintet has long been finishing each other’s sentences.
Ed Draper is the rock-steady pocket drummer made for bandleader Jarad Miles: each (tantalizingly rare) hooky, bombastic syncopation reconfirms. Throughout, Draper frequently recedes into the mix (as smooth drummers will), then reemerges, pleasingly heavy-handed, as in “Wanna Be High,” where he and Miles punch home the finer point of its climactic coda.
Repeated listens reveal subtler interplay between Draper and bassist Andy Nail—don’t sleep on their ride-bass conversations within the choruses of “Devil’s In Me,” as much of their fine collaboration pulsates just beneath the radar.
Engineer Jason Orris is clearly on the same page with Miles and the band throughout. “Mississippi Song’s” bridge is a prime example—Orris deftly weaves guitarist Andrew Berg’s percussive stabs with keyboardist Noah Klemp’s arpeggiated calliope atop the aforementioned punchy, fat rhythm section; he then finds just the right delay for the decrescendo following Miles’s exclamatory vocal stab.
Jarad’s in his typically fit–and eclectic–songwriting form. Don’t miss Berg’s candycane-sparkler solo in (emotionally complex) doo-wop homage “No One Wants To Be Alone,” or Klemp’s perfectly simplistic and definitive one-note hook in the moving confessional “All My Days, All My Nights.”
Lucy Michelle
Lucy Michelle is a singer, songwriter, musician and artist from St. Paul, MN. She has been a performing and touring musician for almost 20 years, solo and with her bands Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles and Little Fevers. In 2013, Lucy released her debut Americana solo album, Attack of the Heart, a rumination on love, loss and growing up. Attack of the Heart was produced by her dear pals John Munson and Chan Poling and performed by them as well as Chris Koza and Richard Medek. Exactly a decade later she released her second full-length solo album, entitled Womanly. Womanly was also produced by John Munson and performed by Koza and Medek, with the addition of Dylan Hicks, Chan Poling, and Noah Levy. A decade later and a decade wiser, Womanly is a take on marriage, growing older and life with kids. She will be performing songs from both Attack of the Heart and Womanly along with musicians Dan Lehn, Tyler Tholl and Pete Johnson.
Whispered the Rabbit
Whispered the Rabbit blends progressive folk, rock and punk to take you on a lore-inspired journey through secret gardens, cosmic storms and historic dance battles.
WtR creates its tone poems out of a mutual love for storytelling. Their first album "Vol.I" was released digitally and on vinyl in Sept 2023, chased by a montage of incredibly fun shows and a second tour in Ireland + the UK in 2024.
Vol. II is WtR's focus for 2026, crafting new tones and character into a landscape of timeless themes woven together by folklore and nature. Look for a staggered digital release of seasonally inspired tracks + Vol. II.
