ABOUT THIS SHOW

Making her Cedar debut, Carsie Blanton writes anthems for a world worth saving. Her songs encompass a wide range of genres, from sultry pop to punk-tinged Americana. Whether alone with her electric guitar or fronting her “handsome band,” Carsie delivers every song with an equal dose of moxie and mischief, bringing her audience together in joyful celebration of everything worth fighting for.

Return favorite, Matt The Electrician, opens the show.

CARSIE BLANTON

Carsie Blanton is a songwriter with hooks, humor, chutzpah, and revolutionary optimism. Inspired by artist-activists including Nina Simone and Woody Guthrie, her catalog is a jaunt through American popular song, from sultry jazz to pop-punk protest anthems. Her unique mix of hook-driven pop sensibility, political satire, and heartfelt authenticity has brought her a small menagerie of viral hits including Rich People, Shit List, and 2020’s tear-jerking tribute to John Prine, Fishin’ with You. A dynamic performer, her live shows seek to delight and galvanize, whether solo or with her Handsome Band. She isn’t afraid to explore the political and the burlesque, but never fails to bring her audience together in love, rage, hope, and camaraderie. Carsie’s album, Body of Work, is an intimately-recorded collection of songs, delicately captured by Grammy-winning producer Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Andrew Bird).

“Fighting fascism with big hooks and an even bigger heart.” – American Songwriter

“Carsie Blanton is one of those hard-headed open-hearted protestors who can make revolution sound desirable to your body, even if your mind wants to resist it.” – NPR’s Fresh Air

MATT THE ELECTRICIAN

Matt the Electrician is Matthew Sever, a quirky, sincere folk/pop singer-songwriter based in Austin, TX. He has self-released 11 studio albums, and 2 live CDs since 1998.
His most recent release, “The Ocean Knocked Me Down” came out on February 2nd, 2024.
For the new project, Matt returned to his “home studio” of sorts, The Aerie, in Austin, TX, (owned and operated by Mark Addison) where Matt had recorded 4 of his previous records, including 2009’s “Animal Boy”. And like that project, Matt and Mark played nearly all the instruments on the new record. There are some special guest musicians as well, including MtE regulars, Seela, Jon Greene, and Stephanie Macias. Plus, first-timers Carrie Rodriguez, Luke Jacobs, and Oliver Steck.
To call this a pandemic record might be slightly misguided, even though most of the songs were in fact written during 2020 and 2021. But the vibe of the record is upbeat, and weird, and fun, and sometimes sad, but hopeful, and occasionally poignant, and silly, and hopeful, but ridiculous, and also hopeful. You might think that’s a lot of vibes, but there are 16 songs on the record, because we’ve all been through a lot, and so Matt figured that, this time, everyone deserved a few more songs and a few more vibes than usual.
