The Artist Collective was a group of innovative local Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists working to expand access to the arts, diversify programming, and vision organizational process at The Cedar.

MIDNIMO

In place from 2014 to 2019

Midnimo, the Somali word for “unity,” was a program that featured Somali artists from Minnesota and around the world in residencies and events that increase understanding of Somali culture through music. Midnimo revived and preserved Somalia’s rich musical traditions while fostering social connections between generations and cultures across Minnesota.

There were three primary parts of the Midnimo program: International Artist Residencies, support for Local Somali Musicians, and Youth Programming.

Nordic roots festival

In place from 1999 to 2008

The Nordic Roots Festival ran for 10 years, between 1999 and 2008, presenting roots music from the  Nordic countries. It was a co-production of the Nordic folk record label NorthSide, and the non-profit  music presenter The Cedar Cultural Center (“The Cedar”), both based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
