about this show

The Cedar is excited to host this triple bill of local-ish emerging artists! We first hosted Lyla Abukhodair to play our plaza in August 2023 (during Open Streets) and fell in love...now, the backing band is THE band - playing their debut Minneapolis performance as BAHARAT.

Duluth solo artist, Robin Hood Was Right, and local Minneapolis singer/rapper/producer extraordinaire, Eslicky Ricardo open the show.

baharat

Baharat is a band united by their desire to instill a unique flavor of music into their hometown of Duluth, Minnesota. The band uses their music to deliver heartfelt messages about cultural identity by utilizing compelling and nuanced compositions powered by a driving rhythm section. Starting out as the backing band of singer/songwriter Lyla Abukhodair, Baharat soon became a more collaborative project as each member started to contribute more to the writing process. Once the songs were no longer exclusively composed by Abukhodair, she and the band felt it necessary to rebrand as more than just her backing band. The band consists of the aforementioned lead singer Lyla Abukhodair, childhood friend/Bass player Jackson Engstrom, Rob enthusiast Rob Runnels on drums, and Marshall Dillon/Emanuel Eisele on lead and rhythm guitar, respectively. This diverse cast of members allows for an equal amount of influences to be present in Baharat’s music. The band has roots in punk, folk, and midwest emo music.

ROBIN HOOD WAS RIGHT

Sam Miller, the musical artist behind Robin Hood Was Right, smashes together raw, honest and emotive lyrics with sweet and sour melodies that create a sound that can be the morning fog. Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, Robin Hood Was Right is a solo project that recently released its self-titled album in December of 2023, with the help of many musician friends. This most recent project takes listeners on a journey beyond genres— from Folk, to New Age R&B and Soul, to Indie Rock — showing us that when there is heart and soul involved, musical creativity will always find its way in and out of the “boxes” we try to place it in.
