Good Emotional Man
Good Emotional Man’s likeness is a cross between an Arthur the Aardvark figurine and an orange stress ball. Over the past year, the modified action figure has become the symbol for Sam Walker’s electronic music. With a large balloon, a yellow sweater, orange paint, and glue, the symbol has come to life. Good Emotional Man’s Laughter Helps is the first long-playing offering from the project. It follows an EP called Prop Comedy’s Melody.
Sam Walker’s work includes a full catalog of songs, a collection of short stories, an album of acoustic guitar music, and a handful of multimedia shows. His last project, I hope so!, premiered alongside WICK with support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Dylan Hicks & Small Screens
Dylan Hicks was born in Austin, Texas, in 1970, and has lived since 1983 in Minneapolis. With his seven-piece group Dylan Hicks & Small Screens, he plays exploratory pop with literary ambitions and far-flung musical influences including jazz, freely improvised music, and various song traditions. He’s also the principal songwriter in Munson-Hicks Party Supplies, a collaboration with John Munson, and the author of two novels, Amateurs and Boarded Windows. His criticism, essays, journalism, and word puzzles have appeared in the New York Times, the Village Voice, the New England Review, the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Paris Review Daily, and elsewhere.
